Welcome to Green Frigate

Titles published under the Green Frigate Books imprint aim to explore the horizons of the natural and built environments, and the relations of humans within them. The goal of the imprint is to reach its readership by producing works that fall in the cracks between those offered by traditional academic and popular presses. Specific categories include ‘Design, Interiors and Architecture’ and ‘The natural and built environments’. In common with Libri Books, the imprint should be of interest particularly for members of ‘communities of practice’ in the natural and built environments.

Book of Books: Pearls from the Meandering Stream of Time that Runs Across Continents

An important book about people and their works.   Book of Books is a box of literary delights, illustrated throughout and drawing on philosophies from both East and West.   Book of Books provides a guided tour of rare books, manuscripts and historical artefacts in a single collection.

The reader is invited to explore and enjoy carefully chosen pearls that dangle from the strands of Time. The theme runs across cultures and centuries from both East and West with excerpts from the works of many great authors including Henry David Thoreau, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Omar Khayyām and Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, and such notable figures as Abraham Lincoln and Mahatma Gandhi.

What people are saying about Book of Books

I wanted to let you know how much I have enjoyed watching the video. The collection comes alive in the video's combination of excellent photographs and the compelling narrative provided in the voiceover. So much information about connections between Western and Eastern traditions of thought is conveyed in such an entertaining way, and each slide gives a glimpse of a new way in which those connections have been and can be explored. I like the background music, too--it supports the story in an unobtrusive yet effective way. Great work all around!
  - Elizabeth Witherell, Editor-in-Chief, The Writings of Henry D. Thoreau

A unique and impressive compendium of examples offering insights into the minds of men and women who made their mark on previous generations—marks which continue to have relevance and value for the present and future generations. An inherently fascinating, exceptionally informative, thoughtful and thought-provoking read from cover to cover, Book of Books is one of those literary tomes that will linger in the mind and memory long after the book itself has been finished and set back upon the shelf … unreservedly recommended for personal, community, college, and university library collections.
  - Midwest Book Review

This book on rare books, holographs and historical artifacts in a single collection is a treasure in itself. With generous portions of passages paired with pictures and tastefully spiced with comments, this book is a feast to the intellect. I commend this book as an aperitivo for starters and a digestivo for the sated. Bon Appetit to all guests!
  - Adoor Gopalakrishnan, India, Writer & Filmmaker, Recipient of India’s highest film honour: Dadasaheb Phalke Award; Winner: British Film Institute Award; French honour: Commander of the Order of Arts & Letters

Books are inanimate friends, ready to challenge, comfort and inspire us. This Book of Books gathers examples of these various genres, offering the reader a glimpse into the minds of people who made their mark on previous generations. We profit as we read from the past which they recount, and we gaze into the future.
    - Father Michael Collins, Ireland, Author of Books That Changed History

Book of Books represents an original and needed contribution to understanding the very profound impacts that the Transcendentalists made to fostering important conversations across the world about how to understand the reality of global spiritual traditions. The attempts to find the language and conceptual paradigms for this comparative exploration resonate with us still. Book of Books will provide case studies in this complex and challenging undertaking, inspired by the dazzling originators of this movement who were, for the first time, beginning to read works of all the world’s major religions.
  - Todd Lewis, United States of America, Edward G. Murray Distinguished Professor in Arts and Humanities, College of the Holy Cross
